DISTRICT NEWS.
NGATEA. CRICKET CLUB. Efforts recently made to form a cricket club at Ngatea have met with general support and it is reported that quite a number of supporters have signified their willingness to join a. club if one is formed. A meeting is to be held this week. One matter which may be given consideration is a suggestion from the Paeroa Cricket Association, which in a letter to the pronioter. o£ the local, club, invited it to join with the association in Paeroa. TENNIS CLUB. A meeting of the Tennis Club was held at the court on Saturday, Mr RE. Jamieson presiding. The resignation of the secretary, Mr R. G. Hemmings, was received with regret, and a vote of thanks for his past services was recorded. Mr Jamieson was elected secretary pro tern. Mr W. G. Hayward w.as elected delegate to the proposed Hauraki Plains Tennis Association, which it was understood, was about to be formed.. It was decided that the club’s colours be black and white. RECREATION GROUND. Tlhie question of laying down new tennis courts was discussed by the local tennis club on Saturday, and it was agreed that it was desirable to work in conjugation with other local Sports bodies and endeavour to acquire a recreation ground. It was decided to put the matter before the proposed cricket club and suggest, that a united effort be made by all local sports bodies. “OVER THE HILL.” Although the Ngatea Hall, was only recently enlarged it proved to be none too .large on Friday evening, when the picture “ Over the Hill ” was screened. All available seating accommodation was taken up, including the “ gallery ” seats. The attendance was estimated at z over 300.
KEREPEEHL SCHOOL COMMITTEE. A meeting of; the Kerepeehi School Committee was held during the weekend. the following attending: Messrs W. Booth (chairman), S. Bridge, W. Herkt, and L. A. Bagnall (secretary). It was decided to apply to the Education Board for a grant to asphalt a portion of the school ground. Arrangements' were made to hold a school picnic on Thursday, December 21, on the school grounds. Mr J. Twist (headmaster) reported that he had asked the children whether they would prefer the picnic to be held under the willows on- the recreation reserve or in the school grounds. The children had chosen the schp'ol grounds. HALL SOCIETY. At the meeting of the Kerepeehi Hall Society on Monday evening Mr J. Twist resigned his position as secretary as he would shortly be leaving the district. Mr J. A. G- Wilsoh Was elected to the vacancy. NEW BOARDINGHOUSE. A boardinghouse is shortly to be erected at Kerepeehi. Some of the timber has already arrived. The necessity of a boardinghouse has long been felt in Kerepeehi, and the hew institution should be of great convenience, especially to tlie moving population.
