CHURCH BAZAARS.

FUNCTION AT TURUA. AN ANGLICAN EFFORT. A.ll early start was made with the. Church of England Bazaar, held in the Victoria Hall, Turua, on Friday, the function being’, declared officially open at 11.30 a.m. by Mr A. Rogers'. Though the attendance was npt very large in the morning, large numbers attended in the afternoon and evening/ The patrons bought freely, and it .is expected that a goodly sum will be realised/with which to augment -the church building fund. Mr Rogers, in declaring the. bazaar' officially open, took the opportunity of congratulating the ladies pn the excellent display, and, by .way of adding additional weight to his statement, he said that he was ‘‘some judge of those things.” Continuing, he sincerely hoped that the bazaar would achieve the object aimed at. On behalf”of the committee he thanked all the ladies who took part jin the arrangements, particularly Mrs Bejl for her organising ability. A large amount-of the credit was due to Mrs Bell and her committee, and he thanked all for the way they had helped, ' All the stalls were well stocked with saleable articles, nicely arranged so as to present a very attractive appearance in keeping with the hall, which was nicely decorated. The stalls were in charge of the following : Mrs F, Clotworthy (sweets), Mrs H. H. Brown (fancy), Mrs A, -Walker (plain sewing), Mrs Sutton (produce), Mrs Cresswell (cake stall), Miss Reece (flower stall), Mrs Herd (afternoon tea). Among the attractions’ Was a fine display of cookery entered for competition. The following are the results, judged by Mr J. Mules : Bread, Mrs Aberhart 1, Mrs Burfoot 2; currant scones, Mrs Young I; pikelets, Mrs Cres,swell 1; sponge sandwich, Mrs Loader 1, Mrs Burfoot 2; janf rolls, Mrs Mclean 1, Mrs -Hill 2 ; madeira cakes, Mrs Green 1; plain scones, Mrs Loader 1; ere Am puffs, Mrs Grossweil 1; collection afternobn tea cakes, Mrs Young 1.
