KIRIKIRI BRIDGE.
THE SUBSIDY TROUBLE. Mr J. C. Miller, chairman of the Haimiki Plains County Counqil, rex ported at Monday’s meeting of the council that when the had seen there was only a grant of 10s in the £ for the Kirikiri bridge he thought it would be better to try and increase the subsidy. The deputation, of which he was a member, was not successful when they saw the Mihister recently. The Minister said the Kirikiri bridge should hot receive any more consideration than any of the other bridges. The Minister had. closed the Estimates, and did not m* tend to open them up. The deputa-. tion was told to see what more the ratepayers would do. Mr Miller said he was sure the ratepayers would not consider 10s in the £. Cr. Whitechurch: How would it be to offer 15s in the £ ? The chairman thought it better to stick to the £ for £ until they were fairly beaten.
