DISTRICT NEWS.

KEBEPEEHI. TENNIS OPENING. Favoured with a perfectly fine day, sandwiched in between days of blustering weather, the season's opening at the Kerepeehi Club's tennis' courts attracted a large number of visitors from Turua, Hopai, Ngatea, and Kopuarahi. The courts, of which there are two, are picturesquely situated, sheltered by wattle and pine trees. The new clay court was conducive of good tennis'.

At an appropriate interval, Mr J. Twist, president of the local dub, extended a hearty welcome to the representatives of other clubs, and thanked the Hopai club for postponing its opening which had also been fixed that day. He advocated the forming of a Hauraki Plains Tennis Association. There were enough clubs on the Plains for that purpose. The association’s presence would obviate the clashing off opening dates. Tlie Kerepeehi dub intended, this ■season, to compete for the Laidlaw Cup. He considered his club would •be defeated, but they would “ give it a go.”

Afternoon tea was served by t'he ladies and was greatly appreciate! by those participating in the opening. A number, pit sets of' doubles were I arranged and both courts were occupied throughout the day. Two sets in particular evoked considerable enthusiasm. lii one set Briggs and B. McMillan (Kopuarahi) were narrowly defeated by Brownlee and D. G. McMillan (Turua) .while a little later, in another set Twist and Devereaux (Kerepeehi) had a very narrow win over the two Turua representatives. Mr J. M. Devereaux ably arranged all games' during the afternoon. A DANCE. A very pleasant evening was spent at a dance held in the Kerppeehi Hall on Friday. The hundred guests present included visitors from Turua and Ngatea. Good music was rendered by Mrs Frecklington’s and Mr Davies’ orchestras, while Mesdamcs Chatfield and Hudson obliged with extras. Tlie proceeds, which should amount to a considerable sum, are to be devoted to the new Ihajl fund.

NGATEA. THE SCHOOL. Mr T. W. Rhpdes, M. P-. visited the Ngatea School on Friday and inspected the children, to whom he explained tihat in the near Suture there would be additions made to the school buildingTHE BAZAAR. An additional result of the compe-. titions .at the recent bazaar has come to hand. As a result Mrs Foote wins a doll, the. name of which was; Daisy. ELECTRIC POWER. The local factory had been promised the electric power some weeks ago. Everything is in readiness for the power., but so far there is no indication when it will be switched on. Nothing has been doiie to lengthen the pole on the bridge, KOFUARAHI. CRICKET CLUB. A cricket club has been formed this season at Kopuarahi, and already there are two teams. It is intended to affiliate with the Thames Cricket Association and to open the season next Saturday. NETHEBTON; < HOCKEY CLUB DANCE. The Netherton Ladies Hockey Club gave a very successful dance in the hall on Friday evening. A decorative scheme of white roses and greenery was effectively carried out, and the floor had been well polished. Excellent music was rendered by Mrs
