SCALES, COMPARED. WHAT OTHER COUNTRIES 'ARE PAYING. Scales-qf war pensions adopted: by different countries were compared by Mr G. Fache, Commissioner of Pensions, when giving evidence before the War Pensions Commission recently. Particulars had been quoted by a previous witness as to the Canadian rates, but, said Mr Fache, they must remember that the pension was practically double that of any other part of the world, except the United States. The Canadian pension included a 50 per cent, bonus. He gave the following comparisons: Private soldier, U.S.A., 76s a week temporary and 95s permanent; Canada, 71s’ 3d ; Australia, 425; South Africa, 40s; Great Britain, 40s; New Zealand, 50s statutory and 70s with supplement.
