TURUA TOWN BOARD.
MEETING OF THE BOARD.
The Turua Town Board met on Wednesday evening, the following being present: Messrs J, A. Bennett, (chairman), J. T, Davies, J. M. Mules, and A. P. Gardiner. Apologies were received on behalf of Messrs C. A. Ansford, A. C. Scott, and F. Olsen. ROADS SUBSIDY. The Hauraki Plains County Council advised that tlhe share of expenditure payable by the Board’s district on a valuation basis already exceeded the share of receipts by over £23, and that when there was a credit balance the question of subsidising for road metalling would receive consideration.:—Received. DOG REGISTRATION. Regarding the collection of. dog registration fees the. Hauraki Plains County Council wrote that the position was that the fees were payable and due in January -of each year. Therefore tihe fees for 1922 became due last January, at a t,ime when the town board was not in existence. The Council did not agree with the Board when it s.aid that the former’s action of collecting fees was not morally fair. There was a small credit after the cost of collars and collection had been paid, and this credit could no doubt be apportioned by the Audit Inspector when he was holding his inquiry for the purposes of making an
Mr Davies said that as tbie Board came into being on Apirl 1 the Board was entitled to 80 per cent, of the fees. WHAREPOA FERRY ROAD. Mr T. W. Rhodes, M.P., forwarded a letter from the Hon. J. G. Coates stating that while he (the Minister) was in Auckland a, deputatoin consisting of Messrs J. A, Bennett and D. G McMillan 'Wad requested a grant of £3380 for the completion of 115 chains of metalling on the Wlharepoai-Kere-peehi Road. The matter had been dealt with in connection with the preparation o,f this year's Public Works Estimates, but he regretted tihat after careful consideration he was unable to provide a Government grant, for the work. It was pointed out that the Wharepoa-Kerepeehi Road had already been metalled, but was deteriorating owing t'o lack of maintenance.—Received. The chairman said that the Request was not. for a grant of £3380, but for a subsidy on that amount. WORKS REPORT. The works committee reported that work had been done tp footpaths. The metal donated by Mr Baghall was carted on to the main i;pad from the factory towards tlhe southern boundary and Raratua Street. The report was adopted. BY-LAWS. Mr Gardiner said there was just about enough revenue ih sight tp cover the cost of the inauguration of by-laws. He thought the matter of by-laws should be left to a full meeting.
Th'e chairman said that the building and other revenue producing bylaws’ should be the first to be introduced. Fuither consideration of by-laws was deferred. ROADING SCHEME. The chairman said the Board should consider a roading scheme. The subsidy on the Piako road should be lifted. The longer they left, the roading scheme the more it would cost them. There was an amount of £9oo' subsidy on the Pjako road and a sum on account. SUNDRY BUSINESS. It was decided tp hold a special meeting of th'e Board this evening. Accounts amounting to £9 Is were passed for payment.
