TENNIS.

HAURAKI PLAINS CLUBS* Tennis is fast becoming the most popular form of sport bn the Hauraki Plains, perhaps even mpre so than football is in the winter. Each centre has its club with targe memberships, and in Turua (including Huirau Road) there are two clubs in existence. .

Some of the clubs have already had their official openings; Turua led off, followed closely by Waitakaruru and Kopuar, ahi. Ngatea was to have been next, but the date lias now been left open. Both the Kereepehi and Hopai clubs have set down next Saturday as' their opening day. The Kerepeehi club recently put down a new day court, ,ahd> this will be used next Saturday. The finishing touches are being put to the new court this week, and both courts should be in good order on Saturday. The Ngatea club was contemplating acquiring land for the purpose of putting down permanent courts, but nothing more has been heard of the proposal. i At the presentation ofi the Laidlaw Cup a month or, two ago a suggestion was made that a Hauraki Plains Tennis Association be formed to control the c,up competitions. So far nothirfg has been heard of this valuable suggestion, and it would undoutbedly be a good move if the leading .tennis enthusiasts came together to discuss the matter. Besides controlling the cup fixtures the proposed association could also be the controlling body for the Hauraki Plains clubs for all matters in general relatihg to this popular summer pastime. For instance, it has been found that while various clubs have endeavoured to avoid .clashing with eaeji other in respect to opening dates, clashing has, in one or two instances, been unavoidable. This is,. one of tihe many matters which the proposed association could control to the benefit pf! the game on the Plains.
