"Potatoes planted on June 15 were dug on August 8,” s’aid Mr H. Shfeargold, when relating his experiences of Canada at Levin (says the Chronicle) and the raipd growth he had observed there Immediately the frpst was out of the earth the warm weather sent growth ahead wonderfully;, and crops and vegetables simply “walked out of the ground.”

"For, 30 years-1 have grazed my stock on the road. If I have anything to do with it you .will never go back to the Council again.” This statement was made to a member pf the Piako County Council by a county ratepayers' recently, as lepbrted to the Council on Monday. The councillor said that- the county ranger had h;ad several successful “hauls” along the road in question.

The suitability pf the Tauranga district for the production off early potatoes is generally recognised. In this connection it is interesting to note that Mr W. T. London!, of Judea, Has been digging 'new potatoes for. the past fortnight. The varieties include Robin Adair, Bonde, and Gold Reef. The potatoes are well grown, and of excellent quality. Three tubers taken at random from a sample werje weighed aiid turned. ;the scales at one pound. The raising of early potatoes is certainly a branch of farming that should prove very remunerative on certain holdings in the Tauranga district. The achievement pf| Mr Eondon —who was’ a notable grower in the Feilding district—goes to prove that ■the marketable product of the high-' est quality can be grown at Taura'nga.
