NETHERTON RATEPAYERS
MEETING OF ASSOCIATION. At a meeting of the Netherton Ratepayers’ Association, the president, Mr T. Vowles, in the chair, it W.as reported that in reply to letters to the Hon. J. 76. Coates and Mr H. Poland, M.P., advice had been received stating that nothing would be done in connection with making grants for the Kirikiri bridge until the petitions circulating had come tp hand. It was also reported that the petition containing about 270 names had since been forwarded to Mr Poland. During the discussion concerning the controversy betweeh the ratepayers of the Netherton and Turua ridings and the Hauraki Plains’ County Council in connection with .the Council’s bridge policy the president said he took strong exception to Cr. Mayn’s recently reported remarks terming Netherton "The Balkans, of the Plains." Cr. Mayn, who had not attended the Netherton ratepayers’ meetings, should not have criticised their actions in any way.
There was a great deal of criticism regarding the bad state of the road? in the Netherton riding. It was also maintained that a great deal of metal was being dumped at the Paeroa railway station during last month, when t'he roads were quite good enough fo.’ the carting of metal. It was' asked ■why the metal should be dumped at Paeroa, thereby incurring extra expense. when it could be brought di u rert on to t'he roads. '
It was decided to ask the county engineer to meet the executive of the association on .a convenient date, when the roads question could be discussed, (It has since been stated that the engineer will meet the executive to-day.)
