The meeting called by the local Chamber of Commerce for last night lapsed for want of a quorum. A special meeting is. to be called fpr next Tuesday night 24th i’nst., when u full attendance of members is resired. A meeting of shareholders of the Farmers’ Union Trading Company. Ltd., and residents of Netherton, is to be held in the Netherton Hall pn Friday evening. Arrangements are being made for a social hour to be spent after the meeting. All settlers are cordially invited to b.e present.

A local land agent has received’ an inquiry frpm a firm in Auckland for a suitable section op or near the main street for the erection of a theatre in Paeroa.

At the Paerpa Police Court pn Monday last Bernard Stansfield, auctioneer, for whom Mr C. N, O’Neill appeared, was charged under the Arms Registration Act with failing to register a firearm, to wit, an old-fash-ioned muzzle-loader gun. It appears that this gun, with, other things,, had been sent into the mart for sale. The gun had not been put up for auction. Stansfield could not register the firearm in th® owner’s name, and he was not prepared to register it in his own name. It was admitted by Mr O’Neill that the proper course for Stansfield to have adopted would have been to hand the gun over to the Police, but 'he had omitted to do so. His Worship, Mr J, H. Salmon. S-M., said defendant was dearly guilty under, the Act, but the circumstances had to be taken into consideration, and he would accordingly enter a conviction and fine of £l, together with costs, 7s. Mr, Gordon Mincher, th® well-known marine engineer of Shortland Wharf, Thames South, bias an advertisement in this issue in which he states he is prepared to immediately undertake expert repairs to oil and gas engines. He has' also had a slip built to enable all classes of work to be thoroughly carried out pn launches. In addition to installations of engines and repair work, Mr Mine,her carries an up-to-date stock of all extras, and respectfully solicits a share pf your patronage.
