THE Hauraki Plains Gazette. With which is incorporated THE OHINEMURI GAZETTE. Motto: Public Service. MONDAY. WEDNESDAY. & FRIDAY. MONDAY, OCTOBER 9, 1922 PAEROA BEAUTIFIED.
The Beautifying Society is again well justifying its existence, as is evidenced by the artistic and sound work now nearing completion at the railway station. Saturday’s welcome rain should quickly bring away the lawn grass, which was sown a week ago, and also render the soil more congenial for the planting operations, which will commence this week. It is the intention of the Society to plant 18 hardy palms (Phoenix cauarieusis) along the main path, and we fully commend to our readers the appeal in this issue by the president of the Society. It should be borne in mind that even the guarantors of the Society have a long way to go to catch up to the public spirited members of the Society’s committee, who, in addition to their £5 a year, are, as must be seen, continually- giving freely of their time for attention to the works of the Society. Only by such civic spirit, even if only on the part of a few, can a town hope to progress on proper lines.
