DISTRICT NEWS.
NGATEA. FACTORY EMPLOYEES' BALL. There has probably not been a more successful social function held in the district than the ball promoted by the Ngatea butter factory employees and held on Wednesday evening in the Ngatea Public Hall. There was a large attendance of about 120 guests from practically every, pait of the Hauraki Plains, from Paeroa, Thames, and even from as far as Te Aroha. The factory employees made admirable hosts, and had every detail carefully arranged. The hall was very nicely decorated with coloured paper penants, streamers, and Chinese lanterns tastefully arranged, while with the many pretty frocks of various dainty hues, the hall presented an animated appearance. A feature of the ball was the music rendered by the Morrinsville jazz band of seven musicians, and .the ball committee, is to be congratulated on its enterprise in being responsible for the introduction of such stimulat--iiig music, with which it was impossible for one to refrain from dancing. The band was particularly entertaihing in the one-steps at the latter end of the programme, and made itself popular w'th all those present. Extras were played by Mrs Hendren, Miss D. Gemmell, and members of the band. The committeemen each undertook the duties of M.C. and consisted of the following : Messrs R. Jackson, F. Nichols, C. Prescott, T. Smith, R. Jobe, G. Satchell. F. Hall, E. Potter, W. Jackson, C. Mellor (secretary), and A. Holden (treasurer). The new refreshment stall was opened that evening for the first time and was well patronised.
Tt'AITAKABURU, TENNIS CLUB MEETING. The annual meeting of, the Wai- . takaruru Tennis Club was well attended and considerable enthusiasm was shown in the atcivities for the coming season. The following officers were elected l : President, Mr R. T. Williams; committee, Mesdames Otter, Fraser, Miss E. Harris, Messrs N. W. Hedges, P. Williams, and R. A. Otter; hon secretary, Mr G. L. Griffith. It was reported that the new domain had not yet been actually gazetted, but it was hoped this would occur at an early date. It was decided, therefore, to meet the Domain Board and make arrangements for new courts to be laid down on the domain.
