RIDINGS DISAFFECTION.
Sir—Will you kindly allow me space in your paper to tell ‘‘Balkan Resident” that the Ohinemuri County Council cannot form roads at 32s 61 per chain—it. is an impossibility—as the price alone is only wages for the two men it requires to do the work. A chain a day of formation is a good day’s work for a grader and at least four horses. With a tractor you can do about three chains a day, but it costs at least £4 pen day for fuel, and on the other hand, if horses are used they have to be fed and shod. Although I sympathise with "A Balkan Resident” in his grievances, I think 't only fair to say that if Wilson’s Road cost £7 5s per chain, it should have been done, for half that .amount.; but 32s 6d per chain is an impossibility. ONE WHO KNOWS.
