NETHERTON RIDING.
THE PROPOSED SECESSION. OBJECTION AT TURUA. The proposal of a number of Netherton ratepayers to secede from the Hauraki Plains County was discussed the Ohinemuri Cpurnty .was discussed at’a ratepayers’ meeting at Turua on Monday evening. The chairman (Mr, D. G. McMillan) said a portion of the Nethertpn riding was trying to get back to Ohinemuri. Tno Association should express strong disapproval at such an action. At the recent meeting at Netherton the Turua representatives h.ad pointed out the iJSIy of seceding. They should express strong disapproval of allowing any part of the county to secede, Tahuna’s secession was quite all right, as one glance a; the map showed it was in the wrong county. Mr Madgwick said Netherton was equally responsible for the position and helped tp form the county. They should stick to their guns. Netherton should never be allowed to go out. If Netherton did go out Turua wpuld be the only heavily rated part of the county left. There were only two in the Nethertpn rifling who did not sign to inaugurate the Hauraki Plains County. The chairman said the Turua riding would be the most easily constructed for permanent ways, and. a good reading scheme from Carter s corner to the Turua Town Board area should be a riding matter. Mr Madgwick moved : ‘ That this Association will strongly oppose any secession from the county by the Netherton riding.” Mr Baker seconded, and the motion was carried without dissent.
