TURUA RATEPAYERS.

meeting of ratepayers, rules ADOPTED. A meeting of the Tur t ua Ratepayer*’ Association was held in the boards room of the Turua. Buildings on Monday evening, Mr D. G. McMillan presiding. The small attendance of thirteen included one lady. The chairman said the first business was the adoption of the Association's rules? The Association would then be on a sound footing. He also that new officers should be elected.

The proposed rules were read. One of the suggested rules was that the executive committee consist of two representatives from each of the following : Freeholders, O.R.P. settlers, soldier settlers, and business men. The Association. was to be for the conservation of the interests of the ratepayers. The boundaries would he the Waihou River to the Wharepoa ferry along the road from the ferry t© the Kerepeehi Kopuarahi road corner. thence to the Kopuarahi wharf. The sea and riven .would form the other bpundaries.

Mr R. Baker asked if the new county ridings would make any difference to the boundaries of the association.

- The chairman contended it would not, as the community of interest would’be the same. Mr W. Madgwick proposed that there should be no classification of the committeemen and that the present committee remain in office with power to add to the number. Mr A, Jensen seconded.

Mr A. PJGardiner did not agree with this course, and moved an amendment that the rules as drafted be adopted.

Mr J. A. Bennett seconded. The amendment was lost and the motion carried.

Mr W, McCowatt was elected to the committee which now consists of Messrs A. Rogers, J. Schmidt, S. Murray, W. Madgwick F. Beck, R. Miller, A. P. Gardiner, P. R Henry, the secretary (Mr Newm,an), 'and the cha'rman (Mr D. G. McMillan). The remainder of the proposed rules were adopted. PROPOSED CEMETERY.

The County Council advised that it had requested the Commissioner of Crown Lands to set aside a cemetery site ait Kerepeehi.

ELECTRIC POWER COMPLAINTS The Thames Valley Power Board, in reply to a letter from the association, stated that it was endeavouring to i'nstal thfe power at the earliest possible moment, Mr Madgwick said that the Board was commencing to. work down the Huirau Road.

The secretary said the power would be switched on the next day as a trial.

The chairman said two mien were allowed a week tp fit up one house. How long, he asked, would they be fixing up the whole of Turua ? H maintained the association should write to the Power Board urging them that they appoint more than two fitters. It took the fitters five or six days to fix up his house . He moved that the Board be asked to put on more fitters. Mr Baker seconded the motion, which was carried. Mr Baker said that the men who were putting the wires along the Huirau Road came from Paeroa in the morning, returned to Paeroa in the evening, and worked about fbur hours a 3ay POST OFFICE HOURS. The chairman said that the local post office was entitled to another assistant, to be open a portion of Sunday, and to be open an extra hour on week days. The number of subscribers on the exchange entitled them to the extra service. The daily hours were now 7 a.m. till 10 p-m. Mr Baker said it would be a benefit to have the extra hour in the morning. It was decided to ask for an extra hour from 10 p.m. to 11 p.m., making the telephone hours from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. It was also decided to ask fpr a service on Sunday. RURAL MAIL. The chairman stated that a mail delivery was being organised in the southern area of Turua. TELEPHONE LINE. The secretary reported that the Auckland Chamber of Commerce was agitating to have a direct telephone line between Auckland, Turua, and Thames. RIVERS IMPROVEMENT. R was decided to write to the Turua Town Board pointing out that it was entitled to a member op the Thames Valley Drainage Reference Board. - JUSTICE OF THE PEACE. Mr Madgwick said the southern end of the district was not represented by a Justice of the Peace. One was required at that end, and he would like tp suggest that one be appointed at that end of the district. He proposed Mr R. Baker’s name as a suitable person to become a Justice of the Peace. The chairman seconded, and the motion was carried. Mr Baker hoped there would neve.’ be a courthouse at Turua. CONDOLENCE. The chairman said the secretary should write to Mrs McLean and family expressing condolence at her recent loss. The late Mr McLean had done a gre.at deal for the district. A motion of condolence was - carried by alt standing in silence.
