CABARET DE DANSE.
MOST ENJOYABLE FUNCTION, The attendance at the Cabaret de Dance held in the Central Theatre on Thursday evening was very poor, and a decided disappointment to the pronioters, Mr and Mrs N. S. Cassrels, who had , spared no effort or expense to ensure the absolute success of the first function of this kind in Paeroa. Mr J. L. Hanna, in a few remarks on behalf pf those present, said he was asked to heartily congratulate the promoters on their, enterprise in producing such an undertaking, and he deplored the fact that Paeroa people had not accorded the promoters more support. Mr Hanna said he had hoped that a series of these cabarets de danse would have been held, but on viewing the attendance and support given to the initial one that night it would take a to organise another. Mr Hanna said he had been asked by Mr Cassrels tp thank the people present for their attendance, but he considered the “boot was on the other foot ” and that the gathering should thank Mr Cassrels for the splendid function he had so successfully organised.
Dancing commenced about 8.30 o’clock, and was continued into the small hours of the morning. Tne music, was supplied by Crickett's Jazz Band, and was all that could be desired, and the floor was in real good order. A classical dance “Humouresque,” .was presented by Miss Hart, of Cambridge, and was deservedly encored. On returning to ttfe ballroom Miss Hart gave a clever exhibition of fancy dancing. /Mr A. L. Mitchell supplied the music for these items.
Great credit is due to thp promoters for the effective and novel way the decorations were carried out, wh'ch was quite different from anything seen in the theatre before. On entering the ballroom one was dazzled by the brilliancy of the scene. From the centre of the ceiling was suspended a huge cobweb with, an iliumihated spider chasing a fly across the web, the .whole being brilliantly lighted by coloured electric lights, and shining beads gave a decidedly novel appearance to the scene. Most beautiful cabb.age trees and ferns formed the background of the decorative scene, and from the greenery were woven multi-coloured ribbons, from which were suspended coloured lights and balloons. The stage was a bower .ff greenery and prettiness. The supperroom was very prettily decorated, cabbage trees, National flags, and lovely flowers from Auckland being used with effect. A most delicious supper was arranged, and generally the whole function reflects the greatest credit on the enterprise of the promoters and they are to be congratulated on their novel scheme of decorations and the initiative shown in an undertaking of this kind.
