SPORTIVE COUNCILLORS.
“SYMPATHY WITH TAIIUNA.” The order paper was not a long one, and the Hauraki Plains county councillors were in merry mood at the conclusion of Thursday’s special meeting. The main business had been to grant the secession of the Tahuna riding from the comity and its inclusion in the Piako County’s boun-i daries. The chairman (Mr Miller) said they had that day lost one of the family, but it was just like a man seeing his_ son getting married. He wished that when Cr. Whitechurch was married into the other county he would lie happy. He wished Cr. Whitechurch and the Tahuna residents every success, and if the Plains. County could do anything to assist them, it would always do so. “Here’s to Cr. Whitechurch,” concluded the speaker. Cr. Mayn said he would reserve his congratulations until lat-er on, when arrangements were all fixed up. The Chairman: But the engage ment ring is on. Cr. Mayn : But engagements can be broken. Cr Parfitt: Here’s my sympathy with Tahuna for getting put of the best county in New Zealand,
