TAHUNA’S TROUBLES.
PIAKO’S UPPER REACHES. Difficulties in navigatlpg the upper reaches of the Piako River were pointed out at the ratepayers’ meeting at Tahuna yesterday. Cargo is now landed once a fortnight pn the riverbank at West Road about a mile from Tahuna, while many local settlers inquire a landing at the end of what is known as Queen Street. The latter site is but 16 chains closer to the settlement. The following discussion, which eventuated at the meeting, has a bearing on this matter. Mr J. F. Mayn said that during the summer months boats could not get up to the landing at Queen Street. Mr F.~J. Walters said that for twothirds of the year tihe boats could no: get to the upper landing. - Mr Barnett said if the river had been a foot lower all the cargo which had come up the river the previous day would have had to be landed on private property. A good landing at West Road would be better for everybody. '
