A. AND P. ASSOCIATION.
THE HAURAKI PLAINS. SECOND ANNUAL MEETING. The second annual meeting of the Hauraki Plains A. and P. Association was held in the Ngatea Public Hall on Saturday afternoon, Mr P. RHenry (outgoing president) in the chair, There .was an attendance of about 40. ANNUAL REPORT. The committee's annual report, presented at the meeting, was as follows: Despite the fact that the. last year has been one of general depression your Association’s second annual show was a distinct success. Favoured with a fine day the attendance was an improvement on that of the inaugural show. While the number of entries in the stock division did not eqna' that of the first show, yet it was very gratifying to see the improvement in the quality, which in some classes was very favourably commented upon by the judges. Financially the past year has been successful., for your committee has been able to dispose of the outstanding liabilities of the first year and end the second year with a credit balance. Compared with the first year the receipts for the past financial year increased by £43 Is 9d, while the expenditure of the second year was less than that of the firsf, and while in the first year the expenditure exceeded the assets, in the second year the receipts were greated than the expenditure and the liabilities are nil and a conservative estimate of the assets £5O,
During the past year it was decided to borrow £l3OO for the purpose of acquiring additional land at Kerepeehi and of effecting improvements to the show ground. Thie show ground lias not yet been formally vested in the Association, but recently permission was obtained from the Commissioner of Crown Lands to take possession pending that beihg done. Arrangements have been made to let the grazing of the Show ground. It will be advisable to put in hand at an early date improvements to the show ground both for the purpose of future shows and • for increasing its revenue production as an offset, against the interest on the loan. Your committee desires to record its thanks for the generous help given by the Ladies’ Committee, the judges and the stewards on apd before last show day ; also to Mr D. M. Quarrie,
the New Zealand Dairy Company, Limited, the Farmers’ Cooperative Auctioneering Company, Limited, and the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, for kindly granting the use ofl their grounds and yards on show day. The report w,as adopted) without discussion. THE BALANCE SHEET. The balance-sheet showed that at October 1, 1921, the bank overdraft was £6 19s 8d and that at June 30, 1922 (the end of the past financial year), there was a cash balance of £7 10s Id. In the statement of assets and liabilities the latter were put down as nil while the assets, mostly outstanding accounts, fees, and donations, amounted to £53 10's 10d. The auditors, Messrs Dellow and Gilmore, in certifying the accuracy of the balance-sheet, added the following note : "Owing to the confused state of the accounts at the commencement of the period the secretary has bad a difficult task to perform, and he has done it well.” The president thought the balancesheet was a credit to the Association, especially as they had start'd off in a bad atmosphere. He thanked the officials who had carried out duties at the show and the ladies for their work in. providing for the judges and officials. He would recommend that the cups offered for competition at the show be handed over the night or the show (with an order for engraving) at a smoke concert. The function at the conclusion of the last show was a pleasant gathering. This course was adopted. Mr J. G. Miller : The printing seems pretty stiff in this balance-sheet. Mr Walton said there was an offset to the printing account to the extent of £4l received for advertisements in the catalogues and schedules. Some of the last year’s printing would be available for this year, so that this year’s printing account would not be so heavy. Mr J. Munro, in moving the adoption of the balance-sheet,, said it was the most, favourable one he knew of. Mr W. McDuff, seconding, said they could not wish to have a better ba.-ance-sheet. The president thanked Mr Walton for putting the show on a sound footing. Thanks were due to him as secretary for his duties of the past yea". He had been the brains of the association. Mr McMillan said thanks were also due to the hardhvorking committee.
Mr Walton had taken on a stiff proposition and a great portion of the success was due to his organisation. The balance-sheet was adopted. ELECTION OF OFFICERS.
Mr Walton said there was only one nomination, that of Mr P. R- Henry, for the position of president, and three (Messrs W. G. Hayward, James Munro, and D. G. McMillan) for the positions of vice-presidents. He declared Mr Henry re elected president of the Association for the ensuing year.
Mr Henry said his election for a second time was against his wish. A change of proprietorship, he considered, was a good thing, in allowing himself to be nominated president ae had done, so knowing that he had not accomplished what he had set out to do. He suggested the adoption of th a system of electing a president for two years. He thought it would be beneficial, but further than the twp years he was not in favour of. There were three nominations for vice-president, he said,, and the number, allowed up to 14. He declared Messrs Hayward, Munro, and McMillan re-elected to the positions of vice-presidents. Those elected expressed their thanks for their re-electipu. Messrs T. W. Rhodes and H. Poland, M’s.P., were re-elected patrons. The president, regarding the election of a committee,, said each district should be represented. The committeemen last year numbered 18, a fairly representative one.
