THE NEXT SHOW
ON THE HAURAKI PLAINS. TO BE HELD AT NGATOA. A discussion regarding where next year’s sho.w was to be held took place at the annual meeting of the Hauraki Plains A. and P. Association at Ngatea on Saturday,
The discussion arose Wihen the president (Mil P. R. Henry) stated that the money to arrange the Kerepeehi grounds and to make improvements was hung up on account of a difficulty in completing the title. The association had possession of. the property. As soon as the money Was available it would be for the grounds committee to take action.
Mr McMillan said they should state where next year’s show whs to •be held.
The president said that provided the money was available to make the necessary improvements he would support the show being held at Kerepeehi. He would not like to see any dissention on the matter. The money the association spent on the ground would make it more revenue producing.
Mr H. Hicks: I take it that if you can’t get the yards in time you’ll have to have the show at Ngatea. The President: That’s how it stands.
Mr J. Carter considered it would be possible to have the Kerepeehi grounds put in order for the coming yean. All improvements would be permanent. Mr A. Carter said if the money were available in a definite time they could stipulate that the show be held on its own grounds at Kerepeehi. It would' be better to carry on at Ngatea for another year until the grounds could be put in proper order.
Mr G. T. Davidson said that as far as the Ngatea people were concerned they would rather see the show at Kerepeehi, as the work at Ngatea was wasted. He would like to make it clear that there was no dissention.
Mr C. W. Parfitt: Will the ground where you held the show last year be available next year. The President: Np. Mr W, G. Hayward said a question had already come up in Ngatea regarding what grounds they were going to offer the association for the show. He took i,t that the show would have to be 'held at Ngatea next year, as the Kerepeehi grounds could not be put in order in time. He would recommend Mr Clare’s paddock for the next show. The ring in this ground would have to be ploughed and put in order. Mr A. Carter: Seeing that Mr Clare’s ground would have to be ploughed it would not take much more work to have the show at Kerepeehi. If yards were built they could be used as saleyards. Mr McDuff: I consider it would cost considerably over £lOOO to buil 1 permanent yards. Mr J. Carter said that stalls could be erected and would be suitable for a’ show. The president considered the system of stalls sufficient for a show. Mr Hicks said the matter appeared to hinge on whether the title was obtainable for the Kerepeehi ground. The meeting should urge for the title to be obtained. Mr McMjillan said all the association’s energies should be concentrated on its own grounds at Kerepeehi. The sooner they tackled the proposition the better for their own pockets. There was a proposition to move the Kerepeehi Hall close to the grounds. Failing that a marquee could be erected. The sooner they put the Kerepeehi ground ip order the better. Mr Hayward said two or, three days would put Mr Clare’s ground in order, but it must be done immediately. Mr C. W. Shultz : Is it not a fact that the Farmers’ Union, would, put the ground in order ? Mr Hayward: Yes. Mr C. H. Waite said Kerepeehi was not a central site. That was why he had previously voted against the show being at Kerepeehi just yet, Mr McDuff thought it would be best that the show be held at Ngatea next year. NO RIVALRY. Mr Vow.les said he would like to make it clear that there was no permanent rivalry between Ngatea and Kerepeehi. There was no idea of permanently shifting it frpm Kerepeehi. Personally he thought there was only one show ground oh the Plains, and that was at Kerepeehi. The next show, however, should be held at Ngatea,. Mr Madgwick supported the shpw being held at Ngatea next year. The president was glad to see that the opinion was that the home of the show was to be at Kerepeehi, and it was only a question of where they would hold it next year. Mr Davidson suggested that it may be possible to form another A. and PAssociation on the Hauraki Plains. Mr J. Carter suggested that the Department be urged to push the title through. Mr O’Carroll: We have the show ground at Kerepeehi, and we will have to go there some day, so we should go there while we are young. Mr J. Munro suggested the formation of a committee at Kerepeehi to go into the paddocking of stock. Mi - J, H. Nicholson said there would need to be a great deal of work done on Mr Clare’s ground, while at Kerepeehi it would be easy. He admitted that at the present day Kerepeehi was not central, but he thought it cut both ways. Paddocking could be done at Kerepeehi. Mr J, C. Miller supported the sug-
gestioji that the show be held at Ngatea this coming year. It was proposed that the shpw be held at Ngatea next year. An amendment that the show be held at Kerepeehi next year providing the money was available within six weeks was lost. The motion was carried by a large majority.
