The manager of the N.Z. Co-opera-tive Dairy Company’s local butter, factory advises an increase of 150 per cent, of butter made during last month as against the month of August last year. The season is certainly earlien, and a record Output is anticipated.

This marnipg Robert Whitten was arrested at Ngatea by Constable Dev-* ereaux for failing to comply with the magistrate’s order to find sureties for £3oo' in connection with offensive letterwriting. the case v of which was heard at the local, court on August 21. Whitten was taken under escort to the Mt. Eden Gaol, Auckland.

When the chairman was appealing to the gathering at last night’s community singing to “sing up and try and do better,” a voice called out, “How about yourself ? you are ‘Flatt, anyhow.” The chairman’s reply could not be heard owing to the laughter and applause which greeted the sally.

At the conference of the engineer, health inspector, and borough council on Monday Cr,. Vuglar said that it seemed funny to him that the inspector should be able to give the engineer a lead in drainage matters. His complaints, however, may be helpful to the Council.

At the meeting of the Borough Council on Monday afternoon Mr B. A. Franklin, Health Inspetcor, said that he was not looking for trouble: he was in Paeroa to act in the best interest of the council and rateapyers, and he. felt it was better for the council to thoroughly consider the various matters he had brought under its notice; it then freed him from the responsibility. Mr A. A. Ketels, who for the past two yeans has been second assistant at .the Paeroa Butter Factory, has received word that he has been successful in his application for the position of first assistant with the Mangatepere Dairy Company, North Auckland,. Mr Ketels leaves to take up hi? appointment almost immediately.
