TURUA RATEPAYERS.
WORK OF ASSOCIATION. THE COMMITTEE CONFERS. A meeting of the committee of the Turua Ratepayers’ Association, was held in the board-room of the Turua Buildings on Monday, the following attending: Messrs D. G/ McMillan (chairman), P. R Henry, W. Madgwick, S. S. Murray, J. Beck, A. P. Gardiner J. Schmidt, and J. Newman, secretary. KIRIKIRI RATES. The secretary reported that fiii.e county clerk (Mr E. Walton) had advised that the rating area for the Kirikiri bridge would be the whole of the county. The annual dharges on the Turua riding would be 2-J.ld in the £, or 4d per acre, with interest at 6%d per cent; 3-19 d in the £, or 3%d per acre, at 6 per cent; LVd in the £, or 3-5 d per acre, at s'%d per cent.; 3-22 d in the £, Or 3d per acre, at 5 per cent. KOPU FERRY. The discussion on the Kopu ferry opened something like this-i: “Is the ferry a success?” “I believe so.” “I wouldn’t like to travel with it in a high wind.” "The time-table is not suitable. There should be no time-table at all. There should be discs, one on either side, to be put up as an indication of wihat traffic is waiting op the other side.” “Do they have much trouble getting in now?” “It all depends on the tide.” It was decided that the proposal to urge the amending of the Kopu ferry time-table be brought before the representatives of the Hauraki Plains County Council at the next general meeting of the association. Mr Schmidt, who moved in this direction, suggested that the trips b.e run continuously from 8.30 a.m. till 5 p.m., and if that was found to be imposisible, to make at least one more trip daily. ORCHARD EAST ROAD. The chairman reported tthat the secretary had written to Mr Rhodes, M.P., to have the metalling of the Orchard East Road. completed before the rails were taken up. It was stated that a grant (had been agreed to by the Minister of Public Works to the extent of £1450, providing the County Council subsidised that amount. The action of the secretary was confirmed, SHIPPING. FACILITIES’. The chairman mentioned the fact that more direct shipping was required for Turua- He had noticed that, one boat to Turua had been overloaded. The trade in the district, was now back to normal, and the number of boats should be increased. Mr Henry said there would be a reduction in cargo on account of the fact that there would be a less cheese output, and the least the association could ask was that any cargo left over be carried by the Paeroa boat. Mr Gardiner maintained the association should ask that a wharfinger be appointed at Turua, It was decided • .that the Thames Harbour Board be requested to appoint. a permanent wharfinger at Turua to be responsible for all goods which might pass over the wharf, GENERAL BUSINESS. Mr Madgwick pointed put that the Huirau Road had been omitted from tihe reticulation of the Plains, and t)iere was quite a lot of business awaiting the Power Board down that road. Many of the farmers had their motors waiting and there had been several new sheds built., the owners of which were milking by hand pending the installation off the power. It was decided to write to the Thames Valley Electric Power Board on the matter. The chairman, Mr Gardiner, and the secretary were deputed to draw up rulefi for the association. It was resolved that all general meetings of the association be advertised in the local press. The Turua Buildings were made the offices of the association.
