HIKUTAIA NOTES.
RAINFALL. The rainfall for August, as recorded at th* 1 School, totalled 2.1 inches. BOWLING CLUB, ANNUAL MEETING The annual general meeting of '.he Hikutaia Bowling Club was held in the District School on Monday evening, Mr W. H. Alley presiding over a fairly large and representative meeting.
The annual report and balance■sheet, a synopsis of which has a.ready appeared in these columns, were adopted as read, while the report of the grounds superintendent (Mr H. L. Morrison) was adopted. He stated that the tennis courts would be ready for play and the bowling green fit for the grass seed in a very short time, the work on the grounds being within measurable distance of completion. Every advantage was being taken of the good weather, and excellent work was being done. The Club’s by-laws were adopted as raed. and it unanimously decided to affiliate with the N.Z. Bowling Association through the South Auckland Association, the president and the secretary being accorded full power to act.
Office-bearers for the ensuing season were elected as follow: President, Mr W. H. Alley; vice-presidents, Messrs A. R. Robinson and W. K. Morrison; secretary, Mr. J. Elliot; treasurer, Mr F. Maxwell; grounds superintendent, Mr Hugh- L. Morrison, committee, Messrs A. W. Alley, G. Avery, H. Brash, E. Elliot, F. Maxwell, I- M. Rbbinson,. and M. C. Smith, seven to form a quorum. The election of a selection committee was deferred. Mr A. W Alley was elected as the bowlers’ representative on the executive committee.
At a meeting of the committee field after, tfie general meeting an entertainments committee, consisting of Messrs G. Avery, W. K. Morrison, A. R. Robinson, and I. M l . Robinson, witn Mr M. C. Smith as convener, was elected, the same sub-committee, with Mr A. W. Alley as convener, being appointed to assist the ladies’ committee in the work necessary for the bazaar which is dated to take place in November. Mr Smith intimated that he was arranging for a visit from the Te Aroha Crimson Pierrots, while he had matters under way for a bowlers’ dance. The proceeds of the forme-' were to go to the Memorial Gates Fund, and those of the latter, to the Bowling Club funds. Mr Smith and the sub committee were given full power to act, while the secretary was. deputed to make the necessary arrangements for the art union to be held in connection with the bazaar..
