THE Hauraki Plains Gazette With which is incorporated THE OHINEMURI GAZETTE. Motto: Public Service. MONDAY, WEDNESDAY, & FRIDAY. WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 30, 1922. BAD ROADS.

There is nothing at the present day of more urgency to .the Hauraki Plains than the keeping open of the main outlet roads. At present the two main outlets, the Wharepoa Ferry approach road and the Turua-Netherton road, are now well-nigh impassable. The former is now in such a state that it will be left alone by motorists, who would now sooner face the Netherton route than stand the risk of being stuck in the few yards of very bad road at the ferry. With the roads in their present shocking state a little more ram would make them impassable to’ motor traffic. The two main outlets will then be blocked. The daily mail service would be disorganised to such an extent that it may even be impossible to carry the mails and newspapers regularly. It is gratifying to note that a little improvement is being made by the Hauraki Plains County Council on the Netherton road, but until the unmetalled gap is put in good order this route can only be one for fine weather. The Wharepoa ferry road is now a trap to motorists not only on wet days, but also in the fine weather, when all the other roads are dry. It is wondered why the Thames County Council does not. at least attempt to make this road passable. The piece which requires immediate attention is only about 50 yards in extent, and it is -a disgrace that such a small portion of road should hold up the traffic.
