The veterinarian to the Farmers’ Veterinary Club (Mr J. Cpstello) reports that he is having a very busy time. His district i-s large, the rpads bad, and his means of locomotion slow, so that Mr Costello has no easy task in the execution of his duties. It is reported (says the Hawera Star) that Mr Vernon Marz’s Friesian cow Alcartra Clothilde Pietje has made 10001 b butter-fat in ten months, which is easily a record for Taranaki in ten months. She is five months in calf, and still giving 601 b to 701 b of milk on a 3.6 test. It is a peculiar fact that though the Plains post officies are closed only one hour during the day there are two hours during which one cannot get into communication between som? Qf the post offices. For instance, the Ngatea office is closed between noo.i and 1 p.m. and the Pipiroa office has from 1 p.m. till 2 p.m. for lunch, thus, between the hours of noon and 2 p.m. a person at Ngatea cannot converse over the phone with another at Pipiroa. That is onl y one example,, and it is more than likely that there are many other cases of a similar nature on the Hauraki Plains. Could not each post office observe the same lunch hour 1 For Influenza, take Woods’ Great Peppermint Cure.
