Last Saturday’s match between Hauraki Plains and Waihi was a contest between the forwards, the Plains team having .the better of play throughout. Though the sodden nature of the turf nullified all attempts of a scientific exhibition, there were seen some bright flas.hes of play, and for a time the leather was being thrown round in good style. The Plains win was a .well deserved one, Waihi being seldom very dangerous. The most outstanding player on ths field was undoubtedly Thorburn, the Plains team’s little half-back. With untiring energy he did the bulk of the work. His fine wbnk was particularly noticeable in .the first half. D. Fox at full-back had little to do. Stretton appeared to be the best of the three-quarter line. The fiveeighths, Garry and Nichols, were sound. Lyes and Rapana were seen to advantage in the forwards, and were fast in following up. The Waihi team could not get properly going, their attacks being immediately smothered. Their defence was sound. The tricky nature bf the ground may possibly have been one of the causes of their defeat, but the Plains team undoubtedly appeared the superior, and would mostly likciy have won if the game had been, played or. a dry ground.

By virtue of their win on Saturday the Plains team are privileged to meet the Thames representatives next Saturday in a Peace Cup fixture. The Plains supporters are looking forward to a great game. Though many think the Plainsmen will return without the coveted trophy, they consider it . will not be withput a great struggle;
