Player No. 1 in the Imlay Cup had to undertake a fairly Jong putt. The Scotsman promptly offered to bet him a new ball that he would rot hole it. “I will take you up,” said No. 1. He then made a very direct shot, and the Scot, scenting danger while the ball ■was in transit, qualified liis bet by remarking: “I meant a comparatively new ball-”
