VETERINARY CLUB.
- GENERAL MEETING. A general meeting of the Farmers’ Veterinary Club, Hauraki Plains, was held in the Ngatea Public Hall yesterday afternoon, Mr A; J. Andrews occupying the chair. There was in attendance of 27. . Mr Walton, when reading the rules' for the club, said he had written to the registrar asking for the approval of the name "Farmers’ Veterinary Club,” and otherwise for the name to be the “Piako Veterinary Club/’ A DIFFICULTY. Mr A. R. Vowles said a point which had rot been cleared up by the rules and which had been in doubt was the standing of a man with more than one farm.
Mr Walton said that the rules at present read "one man one fee.” Mr W. McDuff maintained a fee should be paid for each farm. Mr Andrews said there had beAa various suggestions in connection with this matter. He was o' the opinion that a man with two farms should have to pay twice. Mr C. W. Parfitt contended that ths best solution and the fairest way was to make a charge for each first call with each case of sickness in the herd. The Turua club, he said, was contemplating amending its rules in this respect. This matter, however, could not be decided at that meeting. Mr R. T. Williams considered that the fee should be based on the number of. cbws, say, Is fid per cow. Mr Walton said a fee of Is 6d per cow would give a farmer with 65 cows a fee of £5. Mr Hayward upheld Mr Parfitt’s ■suggestion, which he considered a good one, as it would limit the num-* ber to calls by the veterinarian. The veterinarian often got calls for no reason at all.
Mr Davidson thought the dub should adopt Mr Parfitt’s suggestion, and each member should become an organiser. Mr Vowles thought that Mr Parfitt’s suggestion would not work. Mr Parfitt brought an ending to a lengthy discussion by moving that the matter be dealt with at a later meeting. The motion was seconded by Mr Hayward, Mr McDuff moved an amendment, that it be decided whether the club was making a maximum charge of £5. He advocated a charge 0f..£5 per farm. Mr R Burke seconded. The amendment was lost and the motion was carried. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The following officers were elected: President, Mr C. W. Parfitt; vicepresidents, : Messrs G. T. Davidson and J. D. Hewett; committee, Messrs F. L. Wallis, L. Rowntpee, R. T. Williams. W. Stretton, W. Wallace. It was decided that the club become an incorporated body, and that the registered office be at Ngatea. The appointment of Mr L Costello as the veterinary surgeon to the club was confirmed. Mr Parfitt said the thanks of the club were due to Mr Andrews, whose endeavours had brought, the club to a success. He proposed a hearty vote of? thanks to Mr Andrews which was carried by acclamation.
