THAMES WATER SUPPLY
TWO RESERVOIRS EMPTY. COUNTY CHAIRMAN’S VIEWS. A somewhat startling statement wjs made at the Thames County Council meeting on Wednesday by the chairman, Mr H. Lowe, in respect to the Thames water supply. Mr Lowe said that on the previous day (Tuesday) it had been discovered that both the county and borough reservoirs were empty. If a fire had broken out in the town the result would have been disastrous. A letter had been written from the County Council to the Borough Council on July 21 pointing out that the electrical engineer had always ignored the County foreman’s recommendation for water. As a result all the water was now used up by the Borough Coun n’l’s plant, and industrial concerns were without power. This particularly affected Messrs A. and G. Price, who were doing some big castings. The County Council disclaimed all responsibility for the water shortage. RESULT OF ANALYSIS. The Public Health Department forwarded a copy of the bacteriological examination of the water taken from the County reservoir. The report stated : "Contamination is gaining access to the supply, and every care is required to prevent pollution of any kind gaining access from the gathering area, or that portion through which the water is carried in the open channel into the Borough reservoir.”
