THAMES COUNTY COUNCIL

THE MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Thames County Council, was .held on Wednesday, Mr H. Lowe presiding. The meeting was only a short one. The Whangamata settlers porwarded a recommendation for the execution of various works. It was decided that the work be done. The Public Works Department advised that the Minister had agreed to contribute £lOO on a basis of £1 fbr £1 subsidy towards protection work at the Waikawau washout on the Thames-Coromandel i;oad. Mr Agnew advised that the value o£ gold from the Tairua Golden Hills claim for the past two years amounted to £1022 2s 9d. It was decided to grant a reduction of rept. - It was resolved that the poundkeeper be instructed to exercise more discretion in the execution of his duties. An offer by Mr H. Blackwell to dig graves at Omahu for £1 10s each was accepted. A tender from Mr Darrow to clear the Omaiti and Wharepoa North drains at 5s per chain was accepted. ANTECEDENT LIABILITIES. A telegram from Mr T. W. Rhodes, M.P., stated that the Public Trust Office had allocated all money available for antecedent liabilities, and that there was "nothing doing” at the State Advances Office. The Public Trust Office advised that nd money was available for antecedent liabilities, CATTLE TICK. The Opotiki County Council asked for assistance in their endeavour to urge the Government to make the cost of erecting cattle dips a charge on the Consolidated Fund. It was de ■ eided to support the petition. The Matatoki branch of the N.Z. Farmers’ Union submitted- a copy of a resolution expressing appreciation of the Council’s action in endeavouring t°- prevent tire spread of cattle tick. The resolution was t,’’catly appreciated by the Council.
