THE Hauraki Plains Gazette With which is incorporated THE OHINEMURI GAZETTE. Motto: Public Service. MONDAY. WEDNESDAY. & FRIDAY. MONDAY, JULY 31, 1922. COMMUNITY SING.

Paeroa is to have its first real Community Sing at the Central Theatre on Thursday evening next. The “sing” germ was planted in our midst by the Chautauqua entertainment last January, The cities were the first to take it up, and from the reports in the. press it has evidently been taken up with unbounded enthusiasm. The Public halls in Auckland and Wellington have been filled to overflowing and too small for the huge crowds anxious to develop the ‘ ‘cheer germ.” “Let’s All Sing” will be as popular in Paeroa as in Wellington, Auckland, or other centres, we are-sure. The sub-committee appointed by the Chamber of Commerce have made all the necessary arrangements for Thursday next. The proprietors of the Central Theatre, Messrs Woods and Jennings, met the committee in a public-spirited manner, so much so that the theatre is almost rent free for the night. Song sheets are being printed on the lines ruling in other places. There can be little doubt that the idea is a good one, and though there are many people who predict that it will only hold public attention for a short while, there are few indeed who maintain it is a farce. ludeed, there is ample evidence that the united singing has a good effect by developing a cheery spirit. To enable everybody to take part there will be no charge for admission, but a collection will be taken up to defray expenses. Song sheets will be on sale at one penny each, so let us all sing and radiate cheer germs on Thursday.
