RAILWAY SOCIAL.
BENEFIT TO MRS FLANNIGAN. There was a ready response to the Railway Social, which was given as a benefit to Mrs Flannigan, last night. So great was the response to the call for help that the Central Theatre was soon found to be too small to hold the crowd, and the Soldiers’ Club had to be requisitioned, audit was not long before both buildings were crowded to the doors. The theatre was pleasingly decorated with evergreens, ferns and banners, including the large banner of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants. The floor was overcrowded for any real enjoyment in dancing, but everything was done by the Ms.C. to make the evening a pleasant one for all. The euchre tables attracted a large number, the winners being Ladies — Mesdames Rolton (i)> Staunton (2), Gentlemen —Messrs Treanor (1), Sweeney (2). The balloon dance, which was an innovation, so far as Paeroa is concerned, caused a lot of excitement and merriment. This dance was won by Miss Williams, amidst a round of applause. As crowded as the buildings were there was ample supper and a good one for all. Those who were responsible for the evening were — Euchre —Mr Tim Curran ; Ms.C.—(Theatre) Messrs C. O'Laughlan, A. Lawrence, and Simpson ; ("Soldiers’ Hall) Mr W. Redfern, who also acted as secretary. The duties of Chairman of Committee were ably carried out by Mr Wilson. The function was inaugurated by the local members of the railway staff, who are to be complimented on the success attained, it being the largest function of its kind yet held in Paeroa. Extras were played by Miss Houlihan, Mrs Pennell, and Mr T. Alley.
