“AUSSIE.”

A CHEERFUL ISSUE, A copy of the July number of "Aussie” just to hand contains an announcement of a very worthy object. The proprietors of. “Aussie,” fea-ing that there may be some truth in the statement that the quality of black-and-white art ip Australasia .has fallen off in recent years, have decided to give practical encouragement for the improvement of) the standard of this branch of art.

The issue is a delightful one from cover to cover, and the claim of being The Cheerful Monthly is well maintained.

Henry Lawson, as usual, is represented in the letterpress. His latest story is published in this number, and arrangements liaye been made for him to supply regular contributions of “Aussie.” "The Mother of Henry Lawsen,” written by his sister, Gertrude Lawson, is the title of one of the most interesting articles ever written about t;hat remarkable family, and it forms a valuable contribution to the literary history of Australasia.

“Avssie” has already enhanced the reputation ofj Australian and New Zealand journalism, and the stories, articles, jokes, and sketches in this issue show that "Aussie” never loses its freshness, its brightness, or snap.
