VACANCY ON COUNCIL

RESIGNATION OF CR F. MCDONALD The following letter, addressed to the Mayor, was read at the Borough meeting last, night: "Owing to my removal from Paeroa to Foxtpn at the end of this month I have to tender my resignation as a councillor of tfie Borough of Paeroa. In doing so I wish to testify my appreciation of the efficient and courteous way you have conducted the meetings of the and the spirit of good fellowship that has prevailed among the members of the Council. I shall be glad always to speak good and to hear good of Paeroa, aed hope that the very great possibilities of the town may speedily be realised.—F. McDonald.” The Mayor, in moving that Cr. McDonald's resignation be received, said that he regretted it very much., Cr. McDonald had taken a keen interest in all matters under review by the Council, and he was beginning to realise Cr. McDonald’s worth as a helpful councillor, especially with the revision of the by-laws. He was sure that Mr. McDonald’s presence nad had a very good influence on the councillors. He took the advantage of wishing Cr. and Mrs. McDonald every success in their new home, Cr. Edwards, in seconding t,he resolution, said he was exceedingly sorry that Cr. McDonald was going. He had found Cr. McDonald’s assistance a very valuable assistance. His knowledge assisted materially in helping the Council with tho By-iljKws. He hoped to see Mr, McDonald back in Paeroa again. The motion was carried. In reply Cr. McDonald said he appreciated very greatly the privilege of serving with such .a body o f . me:;. He appreciated the unselfish service rendered to the community by H ! s Worship the Mayor and councillors. He would like to stay and help, but had received a call to another part of the Dominion. He firmly believed there was a big future before this town and district and there was nothing like keeping on with the good work When the transitions from mining to farming had been completed many difficulties will vanisn and the town will begin to reap ‘he harvest that the Council has begun. The Mayor had always met him with perfect courtesy, and he had found him desirous of making a new councillor wise to matters of the Council. He thought very highly of Paeroa, and hoped to be able to read in the outside press of the plp.ce advancing as he predicted it would. He Would always be prepared to speak well of the place, and considered it one of the most advantageously situated towns he knew of-.
