KIRIKIRI BRIDGE.

* A POLL WANTED. TURUA SETTLERS’ OPINION. The newly formed Ratepayers Association at Turua has made its “debut,” so to speak, by passing a resolution concerning the proposed Kirikiri bridge. Mi*. D. G. McMillan was in the chair, and there were also present the County chairman (Mr. J. C. Miller), and Crs. W. G. Hayward and C. W Harris, of the Hauraki Plains County Council. The proposed bridge across the Waihou River at Kirikiri was the cause of considerable discussion. Objection was made by several speakers that the money for the bridge was tb he obtained under Section 119 of the Act. With this course the ratepayers would, not have the opportunity off. expressing their views through a pollMr. Hayward said he was not >n favour of the scheme being undertaken under Section 119. A question was also asked why the boundaries for the rating area in connection with the bridge had not been defined. Mr. J. C. Miller, in reply, said that if a poll, was taken thje area would have to be so small that the project would be too costly for the ratepayers who asked for the bridge. On Mr. Madgwick’s motion it was decided to request the Hauraki Plains County Council to take a poll in connection with the Kirikiri bridge and to define the rating area.
