PAEROA HIGH SCHOOL
COMMITTEE MEETING. The usual monthly meeting of the Panroa District High School Committee was held on Saturday. Present: Messrs. W. H. Taylor, B. E. Veale, W. T. Power, N. C. Busby, L. C. Cane, W. Redfern, A. G. Garry, E. E. Gillinan. The headmaster, Mr. G-H. Taylor, and the acting-secretary, Mr. Jas. Cpuper, weie also present. SANITARY ARRANGEMENTS. The chairman reported that satisfactory arrangements had been made with reference to the sanitary arrangements, and that they did not hope to have any complaints in the future. SCHOOL RESERVE. It was resolved ,on the motion of Messrs. Redfern and Gillman, to write Mr, Kalaugher stating that the noxious weeds were nbt being kept clear on the Board’s property. SCHOOL FENCE. Two tenders were received for the erection of the fencing round the school, and it was decided to forward them on to the Board with a recommendation that the lowest be accepted. APPRECIATION. Mr. Garry moved that a vote of appreciation of Mr. Gillman’s services for the work he had, done in connection with the school grounds improvements be accorded him by the committee and a record be placed in tbe minutes. In proposing the motion Mr. Garry said that the householders, were to be congratulated on having such a very helpful man cn the committee; The motion was seconded by the chairman and carried. WATER CHARGES. The chairman was authorised to approach the Borough Council with
reference to the charge for water. Members of the committee generally thought that the charge might be remitted by the council because city schools did nbt pay water rates and the committee wished to be on the same basis. TIROHIA DISTRICT. The secretary was instructed to write to the Board in reply to the letter received which stated that, a new district for Tirohia could not be made until April next, stating that the Tirohia people still desire 1 to have a committee of their own, and to point out. to the Board the difficulty of the Tirohia representative attending the Paeroa meeting owing to the bad state of the roads. NETHERTON’S HELP. The chairman reported that the Net'herton people had collected £8 8s 9d, which had been handed over as its donation towards the establishment of a manual training school. Mr. Cane proposed a vote of thanks to t he Netherton people for their help in raising funds and also for their help and moral support. Seconded by Mr, Redfern and carried.
' MANUAL TRAINING SCHOOL FUND. The chairman reported 1 that the fund had now reached £9l 8s 9d, which w,as considered satisfactory. The erection of the school is now a I matter for the authorities to decide, the money asked for having been paid over. SECRETARY. Mr. Jas. Couper intimated that lie did not wish to continue as actingsecretary, and wished to be relieved of the duties. A resolution was passed expressing the committee's highest appreciation of tire services rendered by Mr. Couper as acting-secretary and regretting his inability to continue. On the resolution of the chairman,, seconded by Mr. Cane, Mr. W, L. Lawrence was appointed secretary.
