THE Hauraki Plains Gazette. With which is incorporated THE OHINEMURI GAZETTE. Motto: Public Service. MONDAY, WEDNESDAY, & FRIDAY. MONDAY, JULY 10, 1922. CLOSING OF ROADS.

A matter that concerns the Borough was brought before the County Council meeting last week, when correspondence was read dealing with the closing of a road through what is known as Rawhitiroa Block. This road is , really a continuance of Arney Street across the Ohinemuri River and comes out on the Te Aroha Road. The matter could not be dealt with by the County Council as the land is now within the Borough boundary, but a review of the correspondence will clearly show that it is a matter of long standing difference, in fact, to dust up matters that happened some 38 years ago needs some carefull thought. It would appear fiom the hist ryof the case that the agreement for the exchange of the land referred to has never been completed and that many years ago two natives objected to the proposal and the matter ended so far as the Council was concerned. The advice given to the County by its then engineer, Mr Charles Bray, was not to proceed with the closing of the road, as be was of opinion that the Council woul d sooner or later require the road through the block. That time it would appear has almost been reached for it has been stated by Public Works engineers that the present bridge site would be shifted to Arney Street and in that instance the road would be required. It therefore devolves upon the council, seeing the possibilities that the road will be required, to weigh the matter carefully before coming to a final conclusion.
