SCIENTIFIC INSTRUCTION
ESSENTIAL IN FARMING. REVIEW BY THE MINISTER. An interesting review regarding ths necessity of. scientific instruction in fanning and 'the utility of experimental farms was given by the Hon. G. J. Anderson at the luncheon at the Turua wharf opening on Saturday. The Minister said it was gratifying to all that prices were firming, and the scheme for the sale of meat wouM be beneficial to every class of the community, for the more we get fpr our produce the better for everyone. It would have the effect of 'stabilising the prices, and what was best for the community was a stable price for everything. In 1921 we had a mild winter, which enabled us to produce more in the way of dairy produce and helped us tp get through the bad times. The Government was doing what it could for the dairy industry, and 20 instructors were going about the country now. He believed no man in any trade or profession could say he knew all about it, and the farmer could not claim that either. The farmer was always learning, and the more he got from scientific instruction the more he would get off his land. People had said experimental farms did pot pay, but when expert mental farms began tb pay they had lost their usefulness. Those farms were to show what the people should go in for. Better crops could be obtained only by experiment and science.
