Under the auspices of. the Methodist Church .a very successful meetibg of settlers was held last evening to consider the matter of the building of a churqh for the services that are now regularly held, in Waitakaruru. Mr. Stretton, who was elected, to the chair, introduced the Rev. W.»J. Enticott to the meeting to lay before it the proposal and outline the scheme. After this was done it was unanimously decided that a church be erected as soon as possible, and that it lie a building dedicated tp the memory of fallen soldiers in the world war. That it be known as the Memorial Church at Waitakarui u, and that a suitable tablet be placed in a conspicuous place within the building, giving the names of those from the district who served in the war. and also of those who made the supreme sacrifice. The meeting resolved that the aim be a building of £9OO, and that it be tthe endeavour of the settlers to raise at ler.st two-thirds of this before building, the other third being assure ed free of interest, but payable within ten years. It was also pointed out that there was a good probability bf the last £lOO being donated from a clhur.cb in Auckland. A good .wording committee was elected, representative of the district, and the meeting resolved that each of these, and any added to their number, receive lists from the Rev. W, J. Enticott authorising them to Collect on behalf of this church. A good committee of ladies was also elected, to form a working bee or guild, witih. the purpose of holding .t sale pl work or bazaar in the hear future. Upon this church being erected, it was stated by Rev. Enticott that the building would be available for any other Divine Services under approved control without any restriction except that of 'helping to meet any additional cost in lighting .and cleaning, etc., and that the trustees would be fully representative of the district.
