STATE INDUSTRIES.
PROPOSED DISPOSAL. The 'Western Australian Chamber of Manufacturers has received a letter from the Premier ofi New Soutn Wales (Sir George Fuller) in reply to a communication regarding State trading. Sir George referred more particularly to such industries as the State brick-works, timber yards, pipe works, meta] quarries, State trawlers, arid the State bakery. The Government had not arrived at a definite decision as to the manner of disposing of these State industries, he said; but the Minister had a method under consideration, During the war, here, as in England, it was necessary for; Governments to step in and exercise certain trading functions. The need for that was past, and the Government intended to adopt a bold policy of international development, free of all artificial restrictions, and with all possible encouragement to private enterprise. Commenting on this communication, the president of the Chamber of: Manufacturers said that the New South Wales Government had proceeded to put .its pledges into effect, whereas the Government of Western Australia, despite similar pledges, had been in office a considerable time, and, so far from attempting to remove the State trading concerns, was extending them to the fullest in every possible direction.
