THE COUNTRY PARTY.
FARMERS IN POLITICS. POSSIBLY SIX SEATS CONTESTED. Latest advices state that the Country Party which was inaugurated by the Auckland Provincial Farmers’ Union will contest six seats in the Auckland province. Captain Frank Colbeck will contest Ohinemuri and Mr. A. A. Ross, the leader of the party, Thames. In addition candidates flying similar colours will stand for the Bay of Islands and the Marsden electorates. Mr. C K. Wilson has signified his willingness to contest Waltomo electorate as the Country Party’s nominee. If found practicable a man will stand in the interests of this party in the newly constituted Waikato electorate. THAMES AND OHINEMURI. Interviewed a few days ago by a “Gazette” representative Mr, Al A. Ross, the leader of the Country Party and the candidate for the Thames electorate, stated that he would probably commence his political campaign in the last week in September. Captain Frank Colbeck, who is contesting the Ohinemuri seat, has definitely stated that his political battle will commence in the last week of July and that his- first address will be in Waihi.
