CATTLE TICK.

ERECTION OF DIPS. CONFERENCE PROPOSED. Matters concerning the erection at cattle dips on the Coromandel Peninsula were brought before the Thames County Council at its meeting on Thursday. A request by the Coromandel County Council, with reference to cattle tick, to have the southern boundary of ; area A extended to the Tapu Creek bridge so that cattle travelling from the Cbroglen and surrounding district to Tapu would be able to “dip” at the boundary instead of having to enter inside the "clean” area; —This matter was deferred till Cr. Blackett could attend. The Coromandel County Council advised that cattle dips -were being erected in the Coromandel, Whitianga, Whinnatipe, and Colville areas, but the. Council was in sympathy with the Thames County Council’s proposal and wished to help provided funds would permit. A communication from the Thames Borough Council, regarding the erection of cattle dips on the Coromandel Peninsula stated' that the Borough’s finances were such that it necessitated the utmost economy, and regretted its inability to make a contribution towards the cost. The Ohinemuri County Council advised that it fully, recognised the great importance qf dealing effectively with the matter of keeping its area free from infection if possible, and stated that it had beep decided to ask for a conference of local bodies to be arranged .to discuss the matter. Mr. Lowe (chairman) thought the Ohinemuri suggestion was a good one. It was a serious matter, and applied equally to each local body in the district. Some bodies had complained off the lack of funds, but it may later be found that they would have to find money to eradicate the pest from their own areas. It was surprising how careless some people were with preventative measures. Cr. Faithful proposed that the local bodies and the district stock inspector be invited to meet in conference. The motion was carried.
