At a recent nieeting pfi the Waihi Borough Council the Mayor took exception to a reply from the general manager of. railways intimating that no improvement could be made for the tame being to the carriages provided on the Waihi line. He said that as a result of previous representations compo carriages had been put on and had given satisfaction, but these had since been taken off, and passengers had again to put up with the unpleasant experience of stifling smoke and sulphur fumes, when passing through the tunpel, stuffed like sardines in the old '* dog boxes/’ This wa; an injustice to the travelling public, and he thought a strong protest should be lodged against such treatment. It was decided to agal i approach the general managen of railways on the matter, and in the absence of redress, to appeal to th? Minister fjor Railway?, and, if necess,sary, to the Premier.
