KEREPEEHI. TELEPHONE SUBSCRIBERS. A few months ago an applicaiton for a switch board for Kenei.eehi was successful and a five-number board was g”anted. *lt is now found that a larger board is requiredf as’ there are now 14 subscribers, who will occupy nine numbers. A board which will cater for at least 10 lines is., therefore, essential. NGATEA. THE POST OFFICE. The: timber for Ngatea’s new post office has arrived, and t]ie contracqtr, Mr. Mackerell, will soon be starting the work, which is, expected to be completed in about six weeks’ time. In order to lighten the wczjk of the postmistress. Miss E. Hiltord’, an assistant has been appointed in Miss G. Clare, whose present duties occupy Mondays and Saturdays and mail time each evening. SCHOOL COMMITTEE. A meeting of the . Ngatea School Committee was held on Monday eevning, the following attending: Messrs McDulf (chairman), W. J. Clare, ,E. Walton, W. Clark, and C. W. Shultz (secretary). The proposed teacher’s residence, for wnich tenders have beep called, was briefly discussed. It was decided to ask the Education Board when it was to be erected and if a site had been acquired. The committee favoured the south-east side of . the ground for the residence site. y It was reported that Messrs Banks and Burns, at the. Education Board, when in Ngatea had prpjnlijed to give the committee more information with regard -to supplying. ; hot drinks to the children. Nothing further had been heard from the Board in connection with this matter, and •it waYs decided to;communicate with the Board and ask for further information. STOCK SALE. There was a good yarding at the Farmers’ Auctioneering Company’.’ stock sale at Ngatea on Monday,,but there was little demand. Beef steei s sold at £4 tp £5 10s, beef cows from £2 10s to £3, springers £6 to £7, and yearling steers £1 10s. lURUA. ; THE SCHOOL COMMITTEE., The Turua School. Committee met in the school op Monday evening, the following being present: Messrs R. G. Miller (chairman), S. G. Williams; Dale, F. Stephens, J. T. Davies, anil A. Walker (secertary). A letter from the Education Board staled that a recommendation for the enlargement of the school had been sent to the Minister. The. headmaster’s report showed that there were now 164 pupils on the roll, and the average attendance. for the month was 149. It was reported that the entrance to the horse paddock was in a very muddy state and required immediate attention. Arrangements vzere made to attend to this as soon as the necessary material is available. The secretary was deputed to. see that very necessary repairs and alterations. to several sheds were immediately attended to.' ROAD METAL The punt load of metal which- was to have arrived at Turua yestoijday is to he put on the Huirau Road. The Hauraki Road, over which the metal must be carted before it reaches the Huirau Road, is in a shocking state, and it may be found that a few of the many big pot-holes will have to be filled up with the Hutoau Road metal on its journey to. its intended rest--ing place. > •. i
