BEAUTIFYING SOCIETY.
ANNUAL MEETING. The second annual meeting of the above Society was held in the County Chambers on there being rather a poor attendance. The report, as appearing in an issue of this paper last week was presented and adopted, congratulatory remarks being made on the progress of the Society in that short period. The balance-sheet, showing a balance in hand of; £lo4', but with liabilities due of £l2O, was also adopted. A discussion around the matter of £lO4 guarantees outstanding took place. The secretary reported haying received £62 10s of this since the end of the financial year, and as instructed by the committee presented the list of those having not honoured their obligation. It was then moved that the®committee take such action as was necessary, it being an instruction that where deemed necessary legal action be taken to recover the amounts due.
The following officers and committee were elected for the coming year: Patrons, P. EL Brenan, Esqi, and H. Poland, .Esq., MP.; president, Mr. J. L. Hanna; vice-presidents, Messrs. W. Marshall and J. W. Silcock; secretary and treasurer, Rev. W. J. Enticott; Committee, J. L. Hanna,. W. Marshall, J. W. Sflcock, W. J. Enticott, E. E. Gillman, G. H. Taylor, R; W. Evans, E. Edwards, P. C. Furlfey, and Mesdames Hanna and M. Evans. Mr W. H. Blakeway -was unanimously- elected to the- position of -auditor.'

Special consideration to the matter of maintenance }?as recommended to the' 1 committee for the year, it being an instruction that an adequate sum be setz-aside for this very necessary work.
It was also recommended that additional garden seats be procured during the year, and that these be placed to advantage throughout the town.
The committee reported that immediate ■steps •' would be taken to beautify the railway section as soon as sufficient piping was done to the open drain to enable them to proceed. It was suggested that this spot beautified would alter entirely the station end of the town. ;
It was also proposed that if at all possible immediately afj;er the railway section was completed, that something •should be done by way of improving the Public School frontage, in keeping with the work in this direction ihat the School Committee has already done.
