The Farmers’ Co-operatlye Auctioneering Co., Ltd., reports At Hamilton on Tuesday, May 16, the yarding of; cattle and sheep was sufficient to tax the accommodation of the yards to its limtis, and, fortunately, the demand for al" classes was brisk to the conclusion.- The entry of prime cattle was not large. A line pf ; very good (best small) Hereford heifers from Whakatane were well competed for and made to £4 14s ; steers, plain quality, made to £6' Is, lighter weights £4 Ils to £s's fat cows made f;rom £3 10s to £3 17s 6d. The .advertised line of 4-yea.r bullocks drew spirited bidding, and was secured by an East Coast buyer. Prices over the line ranged from £4 10s to £5 12s, with an average of £5 6s 6d for the whole draft. 3 to 3%year steers were also in fair demand, realising from £3 10s to £4 7s 6d:; fresh-conditioned cows made from 32s 6d to £2 5s ; 20-month steers made to 37s 64 for- second quality, others from 31s ; small heifers, same . age,' made to £2 10s. Heifer calves were again popular, and all lots sold under good competition ; Shorthorn cross made tn £2 10s, Shorthorn, small, 24s to 28s. The heavy yarding of sheep in conjunct ipn with their somewhat bedraggled appearance gave rise to a feeling of anxiety amongst vendors as to the probable reception, but this was soon dispelled. ,Buyers were present and were not long in evincing their; desire to purchase with ,the result that the whole yarding, with the exception cf one small lot, was disposed of. No p’ ime wethers were penned ; second quality made from 22s 9d ,to 24 s 3d ; fat ewes 19s to 22s 6d.; fat lambs 18s tr 21s; forward ewes from 14s 8d to 17s 3d ; store ewes 9s to 12s Sd : store wethers were quite equal to any previous sales ; a line of 4 and 6-tooth realised 22s 6d, small 2Us sd. Tb.e advertised line of ewes in lamb from Opotiki arrived in good condition and was eagerly awaited. It comprised 4 and 5-year sheep (station lines) in lamb to R.L. and blackfaced rams., The price realised on the whole draft was 235. Fat pigs were penned in average numbers, the marker showing no alteration from last week. Baconers created more competition than porkers. Store pigs so’d rSadily. Heavy baconers made to £3 15s, medium £2 15s to £3 6s ; heavy porkers apd light baconers £2 to £2 14s ; light .to medium porkers £1 10s to £1 18s ; unfinished porkers anil stores £1 to £1 8s ; slips Ils to 18s ; weaners 5s to 10s.
