THE Hauraki Plains Gazette With which is incorporated THE OHINEMURI GAZETTE. Motto : Public Service. MONDAY. WEDNESDAY. & FRIDAY. WEDNESDAY, MAY 17, 1922. A TIMELY OVERHAUL.

The members of t the Paeroa Chamber of Commerce are to be congratulated on the attendance at the annual meeting held last evening. It seems that at long last something has galvanised a section of members into sufficient activity, and the presence of these, added to the regular attenders, resulted in a very good meeting. It was a foregone conclusion that there would be a more or less lively debate on the lack of notice that nominations for office were due by a certain date. The fact that notices of motion were given to have the rules amended to prevent a recurrence of this position another year is proof that our criticism on the subject was perfectly valid. However, let the dead past bury its dead. The reports presented by the outgoing executive were masterpieces of thoughtful survey of the past and constructive forecast of the future, and reflected very great credit indeed on the compilers. Taken all in all, it Is readily seen that the Chamber has handled many important projects for the welfare of the district, and has achieved no small measure of success, for which the community is indebted accordingly. The composition of the new executive committee is a matte." that augurs extremely well for the Chamber during the ensuing year. In the past there has been most unfortunate dissension, which tended to nullify the effect of many good efforts, but the new executive, upon which are four members of the Borough Council, and with a President of unrivalled experience of the town and district and great activity in public affairs, should now be able to conduct forward policies with vigour and harmony. There has at last been attained what was seemingly unattainable in Paeroa —unity of all shades of opinion and all parties for the good of the town and district. Under such excellent auspices, the community can look forward to a series of co-ordinat-ed and powerful efforts in the interests of progress.
