WAITAKARURU CONNECTION.
At the invitation of "Mr Berney, Mr P. E. Brenan, representing the firm ofMessrs Brenan and Co., Paeroa, attended a meeting of settlers in the Waitakaruru Hall on Wednesday evening. There were a large number present. Mr T. Elliott was electedto the chair ■ .
Mr Brenan, thanking Mr Berney for the invitation to attend the meeting ,said his firm was anxious to extend the present Ngatea service to Waitakaruru. A tri,-.weekly service was suggested. He reminded the meeting that there were bad. roads on the route. The fares, however, would be made as reasonable as possible. The proposal was discussed at . length, and eventually Mr Stretton movec that the settlers accept Mr Brenan’s offer. Mr Beaver seconded, and the motion was carried unanimously. Mr Adams 'reminded Mr Brenan that, he was starting at a bad time, and he should not be down-hearted if the service was not a success. Mr Brenan replied that he was born an optimist. - He would give consideration to the various, suggestions. When the roads improved ttjey , could run a 20-passenger bus, and the ' fares would therefore be reduced. A vote of thanks to Mr Brenan for attending the meeting was carried by acclamation. A vote of thanks was similarly passed to the chair.
