OHINEMURI COUNTY.
WORK OF THE MONTH.
ENGINEER’S REPORT. ,
Mr E. Shaw, Ohinemuri County Engineer, submitted the following report to his Council on Thursday : I beg to report for the month as follows :
I Plans and specifications were fo' 1 - j warded to the Public Works Departj ment for approval for two platform , bridges on the Waihi-Whanganiata road ; (firming and cul verting portion of, Princess Street, Wailtino; also specifications for culverting and fill-' 1 ing on Houmanga Road ; and repairs 1 to the Waitekauri main traffic bridge. I Repairs were* effe'eted to the Golden 1 Cross Road and wheel traffic was resumed.
The damage caused by the Food to fhe approach to one of the bridges on the Komata Creek road was made good during the month. (I. Ross’ contract for forming. 94 chains of Waihi-Whanganiata road has been completed. Since my last visit to this district the late flood had occurred, and done a considerable, amount of damage to culverts, bridges, and creek crossings. The crossing . over the Waiharakeke Stream, was scoured out and left the road impassable. One of the- - small bridges was washed away and another lifted out of place. Seeing that tehre is no revenue to make good the damage,' and as there is a Mines grant of £3OO on the Estimates, I would recommend that tlte Department be asked for assistance, and failing a favourable reply it would be advisable to close the road fo.’ traffic Ip the meantime I have arranged with Mr Ross to effect a few repairs.—Grant of £.lOO to be applied for.
The repairs to Maratoto Road are just on .completion. No response to the appeal for further assistance for this road from the Mines- Department has yet come to hand.' —Department to be again written to. The Hikutaia Settlement road is in need of urgent repair, and 1 would ask your Council’s- permission for 50 cubic yards of gravel and an extra man for one month to make good before the winter. —Granted.
Re the electric "lights in the- township of Karangahake, I would recommend that same be dis'eontinued. — : Agreed to.
Accrued thirds amounting to £6O for the half-year ending March 31, .1922, came to hand, and' a proposal for the expenditure of same has been made out and sent forward in duplicate for approval to -the Land Board. As requested, I haVe prepared an estimate to form and metal -that portion of the Waihi • Beach Road between the Waihi-Tauranga Road at the cemetery and the' eastern boundary of H.P.L. 108. This length will give access to all the sections fronting this road.. The estimate was £2443 19s 4d.
