POKENO MAIL SERVICES.

CLOSING OFFICES HINTED. A WAITAKARURU PROTEST. Among other things brought before the Minister for Public Wprks, the Hon. J... G. Coates., at Ngatea on Thursday, were matters concerning the proposed mall service from Pokena to Ngatea, via Waitakaruru and Pipiroa. Mr C. W. Harris (president of the Waitakaruru Farmers’ Union) said there was a suggestion that if l a I’ui’al delivery were established in connection with the proposed PokenoNgatea mail service, tlie Waitakaruru and Pipiroa- post offices, would be closed. He strongly urged that those post offices should not be closed.

Mr Coates said that his experience was that the rural mail delivery would be more advantageous to the settlers. He, however, did not wish to force anything on to the settlers.
